On behalf of Smita Patil Public School I would like to welcome you to our website and give you first glimpse of our school. I hope you find it informative and reflective of our strong commitment to your children’s education.

Let me tell you the story of how this institution came into being. My Ma and my Pa, Vidya and Shivaji Patil, came from villages and from deeply marginalized background yet they were curious, and erudite. School was a luxury they could not afford but their erudition led to self-learning. Papa taught himself during his tenure as a freedom fighter in British Jail at a tender age of 14-21 and Ma studied, reading from the book kept at her side while washing utensils for others and reciting poetry while carrying firewood on her head. Hence education for the marginalized became a leitmotif of their life.

This deep-seated ardour led them to imagine a space where children from marginalized background could be nurtured to become not only conscious and contributing citizens but also Game Changers in the society. Ma and Pa deeply believed in what Gandhiji said “You must be the change you wish to see in the world”. This was the genesis of Smita Patil-Public School. Named after their world-renowned actress daughter, late Smita Patil, this school is a culmination of many dreams and aspirations. Smita, raised with the same values as her parents, used her celebrity status to raise funds for the cause of women and children. Thus, Smita Patil Public School represents the values and dreams of these three individuals.

School forms a critical space during the most impressionable years of a person, a space that shapes the development of mind and body of each child and her and his special talent. The experiences during this phase of life impact the persons’ personality over a lifetime. Keeping this in mind, at SPPS, our fundamental focus remains on a holistic development of the child where learning is an enjoyable experience. Learning that is inquiry based, relevant in today’s technology driven world, learning that fosters critical and creative thinking, collaborative attitudes, effective communications and prepares the students to lead successful lives in the fast changing world.

Our dedicated and caring teachers are our pillars of our strength. They make every effort to locate unique strengths of your child and cultivate that. Our efficient administrative team supports the academic activities ensuring the school remains a nurturing space. Our visionary trustees continuously strive to make the school prepare for tomorrow’s world and our parents’ inputs form an important part of our strategies.

Our educational programs are supported by excellent living facilities spread over 24 acres of beautiful campus, dotted by shaded tress. Equipped with a cricket ground, a volleyball court, a basketball court, the emphasis on sports as instruments not only to build a resilient body but also to teach teamwork and collaboration remains integral part. A well-equipped computer lab incorporates new technologies continuously while the art, music and Story Pit gives opportunity for creative communications. Since nutrition remains a fundamental part of growth of children, the menus are carefully planned to deliver healthy meals at frequent intervals. All the teachers live on the campus making them available to students round the clock. Medical help is available to students and health and hygiene maintenance remains critical part of student’s daily lives.

It is our constant endeavour to support an ecosystem where your children can explore, experience and envisage world of today and tomorrow. I believe in what Gandhiji told us long ago: “By education I mean an all-round drawing out of the best in the child and man-body, mind and spirit." At SPPS we strive hard to meet that goal.
